Construction work is well underway at Hamilton’s newest GO Station, Confederation GO near Stoney Creek.

Work crews have been busy with structural steel installation and building a new staircase from the tunnel to the station building and construction has moved above ground with a recently constructed station building, stair and ramp enclosure infrastructure.

In the image below, the steel roof structure and canopy are being constructed on the north side of the station building.

The new station at Confederation will include:

  • A fully accessible island platform complete with mini-platform and canopies to protect customers from the weather while they wait for the train
  • A pedestrian tunnel and vestibule to make it easier for customers to get to their platform
  • Enhanced access with a pick-up and drop-off zone with space for 15 vehicles, parking and direct pedestrian stair access from the platform to Centennial Parkway.

The station will be located near the intersection of the QEW and Centennial Pkwy N. in east Hamilton. The site has already been serving customers since 2019 using GO Bus Route 12 since 2019, which connects Confederation GO with Burlington GO Station and the Dundas Street and Highway 407 park and ride lot to the west, and Grimsby, St. Catharines and Niagara Falls to the east.

The Province green-lit the project in early 2015 with an estimated price tag of $150 million to extend GO Train service the 10 kilometres beyond West Harbour GO Station to east Hamilton. Construction on the site began in 2017, with work delayed several times, including during the pandemic. Work resumed on the rail station in 2022 and is expected to be completed next year.
