What’s open and closed Easter Sunday 2024 in Ontario

This year, Good Friday falls on March 29, followed by Easter Sunday (March 31) and Easter Monday (April 1).
One of the holiest Christian holidays, Easter–also called Pascha or Resurrection Sunday–commemorates the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day of his burial following his crucifixion by the Romans.
Here’s what’s open and closed on Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday in various cities across southern Ontario:
Closed: The LCBO, the Beer Store, banks, most libraries, city halls, provincial and federal government offices, and non-emergency government services will be closed on Good Friday and Easter Sunday in Mississauga, Brampton, Halton, Hamilton and the Durham and Niagara regions. Other non-emergency services, such as some government services, will also be unavailable on Easter Monday.
On Good Friday and Easter Sunday, Square One (including the Walmart Supercentre), Erin Mills Town Centre, Dixie Outlet Mall, Heartland Town Centre, most major grocery stores, City Hall and Region of Peel offices, banks, libraries and community recycling centres will be closed. LCBO and Beer Store locations will also be closed.

Canada Post will be closed (no mail pick-up or delivery).
Garbage and recycling will not be picked up on Good Friday.
Non-emergency government services and schools will be closed on Easter Monday.
Whole Foods Square One is open on Good Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Other facilities that will be open include most restaurants (but call ahead to be sure), Rabba grocery stores, T&T Central Parkway, most Shoppers Drug Mart locations, movie theatres and some entertainment centres.
For transit, MiWay will operate on a holiday service schedule on Good Friday (Note: routes 28 Confederation, 46 Tenth Line-Osprey and 48 Erin Mills will not run at all on Good Friday), and GO Transit will run on a Sunday schedule on Good Friday. Region of Peel TransHelp: all trips for Good Friday, March 29, and Saturday, March 30, must be booked by 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, either online or by calling 905-791-1015.

On Good Friday and Easter Sunday, Bramalea City Centre, Shoppers World, most major grocery stores, city hall, banks, libraries, community centres, federal and provincial non-emergency services, non-emergency Region of Peel services, the Brampton Animal Shelter and community recycling centres will be closed.
Non-emergency government services and schools will be closed on Easter Monday.
Garbage will not be picked up on Good Friday and Canada Post will not operate (no mail pick-up or delivery). All LCBO and Beer Store locations will also be closed on both days.
Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) will also be closed.
As for what’s open, Brampton residents can visit restaurants, cafes and bars (but should call ahead to be sure), most pharmacies (including most Shoppers Drug Mart locations) and Rabba grocery stores. Brampton Recreation Centres will be operating under a reduced schedule over the Easter long weekend.
Commuters should note that Brampton Transit will be operating on a Sunday/holiday schedule on Good Friday. Customer Service counters are closed. GO Transit will run on a Sunday schedule on Good Friday.

On Good Friday and Easter Sunday, Mapleview Centre, Burlington Centre, Oakville Place, Milton Mall, most major grocery stores, LCBO locations, Beer Store locations, community centres/arenas/pools, the Oakville Museum, the Mattamy National Cycling Centre in Milton, municipal buildings (including city/town halls in Milton, Burlington, Oakville and Halton Hills and Halton Region offices), banks, libraries, court services will be closed.
Canada Post will not operate (there will be no pick-up or delivery), and the Halton Waste Management Site will be closed. Garbage will not be picked up on Good Friday.
Non-emergency government services and schools will be closed on Easter Monday.
As for what’s open, residents can visit local parks and certain outdoor recreational amenities, most Shoppers Drug Mart locations, most restaurants (but call ahead to be sure), Rabba grocery stores, Conservation Halton Parks (Crawford Lake, Hilton Falls, Kelso, Mount Nemo, Mountsberg, Rattlesnake Point), Terra Cotta Conservation Area in Halton Hills and Toronto Premium Outlets.
For transit:
Oakville Transit will run on a holiday schedule on Friday (regular weekday service resumes Monday).
Burlington Transit will run on a holiday schedule and the downtown Transit Terminal and Specialized (Handi-Van) Dispatch will be closed on Friday. Regular service will resume on Saturday. For real-time schedule information, visit www.burlingtontransit.ca.
Milton Transit will not operate on Friday.
GO Transit will run on a Sunday schedule on Friday.

On Good Friday and Easter Sunday, the LCBO, Beer Store, CF Lime Ridge and other major malls, most major grocery stores, libraries, city hall, municipally run recreation centres, the Hamilton Farmers’ Market, banks, and Canada Post will be closed.
All Hamilton Civic Museums are closed Good Friday and Easter Monday, but those that are typically open on weekends will operate during regular hours on Sunday. Museums open on Sunday include the Battlefield House Museum & Park, Dundurn National Historic Site, the Hamilton Museum of Steam & Technology National Historic Site, the Hamilton Military Museum, and the Whitehern House & Garden.
The Hamilton Municipal Parking System will be closed on Friday, March 29 and Monday, April 1, 2024.
There will be no garbage pickup on Good Friday and Community Recycling Centres and Transfer Stations will be closed.
Non-emergency government services and schools will be closed on Easter Monday.
As for what’s open, residents can visit convenience stores, movie theatres, most pharmacies, Splitsville Entertainment, West Avenue Cider House, most restaurants (but call ahead to be sure) and the Tropical Greenhouse at Gage Park (open on Good Friday).
For transit, the HSR will operate on a Sunday level of service, ending at 10 p.m., on Good Friday. DARTS will offer holiday service hours and GO Transit will run on a Sunday schedule on Good Friday.

On Good Friday and Easter Sunday, Pickering Town Centre, Oshawa Centre, LCBO locations, Beer Store locations, Pickering Museum Village, Service Oshawa, banks, libraries, town and city halls, non-emergency government services (all levels), courts and most municipal recreation centres will be closed.
Canada Post will also be closed.
Garbage and recycling days will be pushed ahead by one day if they fall on Good Friday.
As for what’s open, some restaurants may be open for dine-in, takeout and delivery, but call ahead to be sure. Residents can also visit variety stores and some smaller grocery stores, most pharmacies, most breweries (call ahead to be sure) and some cannabis stores. Many municipal recreation centres will be open on Easter Sunday but with modified hours. The Delpark and South Oshawa community centres in Oshawa will be open on Sunday.
Non-emergency government services and schools will be closed on Easter Monday.
Transit:
DRT will run on a holiday schedule on Friday (regular weekday service resumes Monday)
GO Transit will run on a Sunday schedule on Friday. Trains will run every hour making all station stops. Eastbound trains will leave Toronto’s Union Station every hour and westbound trains will leave Oshawa GO on an hourly basis as well.

Because Niagara is popular amongst tourists, many shops and attractions will be open.
On Good Friday and Easter Sunday, many places will still be closed, including all city and town halls, non-emergency federal, provincial, municipal and regional government offices, most major grocery stores, the Pen Centre in St Catharines, Fairview Mall in St Catharines, Briarfield Shopping Centre in St Catharines, Pendale Plaza in St Catharines, Seaway Mall in Welland, SmartCentres in Welland and St Catharines, community centres and libraries, banks, Canada Post (no mail pick up or delivery), Community Recycling Centres, all LCBO locations and all Beer Store locations.
There will be no garbage pickup on Good Friday.
As for what’s open, residents can check out Canada One in Niagara Falls, SmartCentres in Niagara Falls, Outlet Collection at Niagara in Niagara-on-the-Lake, some smaller grocery stores, some wineries and breweries (call ahead to be sure), most bars, restaurants and cafes (call ahead), most pharmacies, movie theatres and tourist attractions (call ahead).
Non-emergency government services and schools will be closed on Easter Monday.
For transit, GO Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule on Friday and transit services in St Catharines, Welland and Niagara Falls will operate on holiday hours.
