A portion of Barton Street in the city’s East End is closed Monday (Jan. 13) due to a watermain break.

A portion of Barton Street in the city’s East End is closed Monday (Jan. 13) due to a watermain break.

City of Hamilton water crews are currently responding to a significant watermain break on Barton Street between Woodward Avenue and Waverly Street.

Due to the location and severity of the break, the eastbound lanes of Barton Street between Woodward and Waverly are completely closed, the city says in a release sent Monday morning.

The cause of the break is currently unknown.

The road is expected to be open by 3 p.m. on Monday.

Residents and motorists are being asked to avoid these areas if possible.
