The video, shared to YouTube last week and updated over the weekend, shows dozens of the school’s music students performing an instrumental version of The Jungle Book’s ‘Bare Necessities’.
“This is our first remote now updated O.P. Band recording which we started as summer was approaching,” the introduction below the post says.
“It’s truly amazing what we can achieve when we say “NO!!!!!” to anything that tries to stop us from showing who and what we are.”

Accompanying the virtual performance, are a few words of the importance of music in times of upheaval and uncertainty.
“Music is a bare necessity; it helps us all to remedy the stress and complications of our lives,” it reads.
“Without our band community, we hate to think where we would be. So we’ve made sure our music bond survives.”
Schools across Hamilton reopened last week to welcome back students for in-class and remote learning. It’s been a rocky start, especially with the number of COVID-19 cases across the province on the rise, the city’s school bus driver shortage and technical difficulties.
At least this video is proof that should the second wave hit and we end up in lockdown once again, the possibilities for educating and engaging Hamilton’s students online are endless.
