Ontario family wins $1 million jackpot lottery win

An Ontario family is getting ready to pack their bags for an epic family getaway after scoring a more than $1 million lottery prize.

Bogdan Karwowski from Shelburne says he usually picks up tickets for the Lottario draw every week.

The automotive industry worker says he was checking a ticket for the April 13 Lottario draw using the OLG app when he found he’d won a more than $1 million prize.

“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” he said while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to collect his winnings.

Karwowski hatched a plan to break the news to his family starting with his wife.

“I scanned the ticket and showed her the win. She said, ‘Congratulations, you won $1,000.’ I asked her to look again and we were so shocked,” he said. “I still didn’t believe it was true.”

The couple then shared the win with their children who “were so happy.”

Karwowski plans to use the prize money to pay some bills and invest for retirement, but said he’s also planning to celebrate the windfall by taking the family on a vacation getaway.

Lottario launched in 1978 as Ontario’s first terminal lotto game with tickets $1 and draws every Saturday. The OLG says it supports safe play and responsible gambling through its PlaySmart program.

The winning ticket was purchased at Town Milk & Variety on Main Street in Shelburne.
