Police are searching for a suspect and appealing to witnesses following a double homicide early this morning in Hamilton.

Shortly after 5:00am on Sunday, March 8, police received reports of a shooting at Urban Lounge, located in the basement behind Sam’s Tavern on Barton Street East.

Officers arrived to find three males and one female suffering from gunshot injuries. The four were taken to hospital by paramedics.

A 39 year old male was pronounced dead at the hospital, and the 25 year old female succumbed to her injuries shortly after, police report.

The two other victims, a 39 year old male and 29 year old male, remain in stable condition.

The suspect in this incident is described as a dark-skinned black male with a thin build, approximately 5’10 and possibly in his early 30s. He is believed to have short braids and was wearing dark jeans or pants and a track suit-style zip-up jacket.

The suspect fled in an unknown direction after the shooting.

“Police understand the individuals had attended a memorial celebration for murder victim Carel Douse at the Zen Lounge on John St. South earlier in the evening,” police say.

Douse was murdered on May 18, 2019 at a residence on East Avenue North in Hamilton.

“After the Zen Lounge closed, the celebration moved to Urban Lounge on Barton Street East. Shortly after 5:00 a.m., a male entered the establishment and fired multiple shots, striking the four individuals. Police continue to search for a motive behind the shootings.”

At this time, police say only one witness has come forward despite many people being present at the scene when the shooting occurred.

Witnesses and anyone with information that can assist the investigation is asked to call 905-546-3825.
