Two men from Toronto were charged last Friday with first-degree murder in connection with the 2020 shooting death of a Stoney Creek man who was gunned down in his driveway late at night.

On March 2, 2020 at about 10:45 p.m., Giorgio Barresi, 42, was shot several times outside his home on Portofino Place in Stoney Creek.

He succumbed to his injuries immediately.

Hamilton Police say that on the night of the murder, one person, believed to be the shooter, arrived in a sedan at the intersection of Portofino Place and Lido Dr., near Barresi’s home.

“It is believed that at least one other individual remained with the suspect vehicle during the incident,” police said in a news release, adding they believe the gunman walked back to the vehicle after the shooting and the car fled south on Lido Dr.

Initial information showed historical ties between Giorgio Barresi and the Musitano traditional organized crime group.

Jamal Chemin, 41, and Sorossa Moude, 27, both of Toronto, are now charged in the murder.

“George, we think of you and your final moments every single day. We take comfort that charges have now been laid in George’s death,” said Barresi family spokesperson Roberto Bucciarelli.

Police continue to urge anyone with information to come forward by calling investigators at 905-546-4167 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
