Hamilton Police say a delivery truck driver from Scarborough will not face charges in relation to a collision earlier this month in downtown Hamilton that resulted in the death of a local man.

In a press release issued Wednesday (Sept. 2), Hamilton Police recall that on Sunday, August 9, 2020, shortly after 12:30 p.m., a 53-year-old man from Scarborough was driving a large delivery vehicle eastbound on York Boulevard from Bay Street North.

At the same time, a 57-year-old man from Hamilton entered into the path of the vehicle and was struck. He was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and the driver of the commercial vehicle remained on scene and co-operated with police, the release says.

On Tuesday, August 18, 2020, the Hamilton man succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit has concluded the investigation. Detectives have ruled out speed, alcohol and driver error as contributing factors to the collision and police determined that the driver will not be facing any charges.

At the request of the family, Hamilton Police will not be releasing the name of the deceased.
