Top 5 Pizza Places in Hamilton
Over the past couple of years in Hamilton, although it has always been good, pizza has become somewhat of a worldwide phenomenon. It's on clothing, there are endless pizza memes that are always circulating the Internet, and one of the most widely discussed topics now is whether or not pineapple is an acceptable topping choice (spoiler alert, it is).
It's pretty safe to say that the conversation surrounding pizza is not ending anytime soon. And now we're contributing to it by dishing out the best pizza restaurants the city of Hamilton has to offer.
Here are the top five pizza places to visit in Hamilton.
A few years ago, my Grandma and I decided to get Chicago Style Pizza during a snowstorm. I had never tried it before but my Grandma, and dad, and had been raving about it for months. But immediately after my first experience, I was hooked.
You can probably guess from the name, but Chicago Style Pizza sells Chicago deep dish-style pizzas. At this Hamilton hotspot, customers can choose from a wide range of pizza types, however, my favourite is the white pizza (made with extra virgin olive oil, fresh garlic, Spanish onion, Romano cheese, and oregano).
Other pizza types include the regular crust, the thick crust, and the stuffed pizza (stuffed with delicious cheese and pizza sauce).
At Chicago Style Pizza, you can choose your own toppings or pick one of the restaurant's pizza topping suggestions (the Chicago special - Italian sausage, green peppers, and mushrooms, the shack special - pepperoni, green pepper, mushrooms, onions, and green olives, the no self respect - peppers, meatballs, bacon, ham, and extra cheese, or the cosmopolitan - tomatoes, green peppers, black olives, onions, fresh garlic, and hot peppers).
Dundas is a quiet cute community in Hamilton and is home to a lot of incredible cafes and restaurants, one of which being Emilio's. After being in business for more than 25 years it's safe to say that Emilio's has perfected the craft of making pizza. Yes, that's right I said it - making pizza is a craft and an art.
At Emilio's, the pizza dough is made in-house every day and all vegetables are chopped by hand.
Besides making pizza that tastes just like it was made in your own kitchen, Emilio's also has fair and reasonable prices. A medium pizza with four toppings only costs $14.99!
We all have those nights (or days) when we're heading home or going out and we need to pick up something to eat quickly. For me, when I'm picking up something in a pinch pizza is often my first choice, with Mario's Pizza & Wings being my top choice.
A medium pizza at Mario's (with three toppings - the combo also includes 12 wings) is just $20.99 and will completely satisfy your rumbling stomach.
However, even if you're not picking up something quick on your way home, Mario's is still an excellent spot to hit up for some great pizza. You can get an extra-large pizza and 20 wings for the whole family (or yourself - I won't tell anyone) for just $25.99!
(NaRoma’s Locke St location has permanently closed)
If you're looking for delicious and authentic Italian pizza, NaRoma at Scoly's Hometown Market is the perfect place to go. The first time I visited I had the carne pizza - tomato sauce, mozzarella, cured ham, prosciutto, and Italian sausage - and it was incredible. It was the perfect combination of sweet and salty (sweet from the tomato sauce, and salty from the prosciutto, sausage, and ham). Top it off with some mouth-watering mozzarella cheese, and fresh crust that is not too thin or thick... and you've got the perfect pizza!
If you're looking for a pizza that is different from the traditional cheese and pepperoni combination, Earth to Table Bread Bar (more commonly just called the Bread Bar) is the place to go.
The restaurant (which actually has a Guelph location as well) offers unique pizzas starting with the ingredients used and their names on the menu.
A few pizza options offered by the Bread Bar include the umami deluxe (red sauce, mozzarella, umami sauce, ground beef, mushrooms, pickled red onions, truffle mayo, and parmesan), the vampire slayer (white sauce, mozzarella, brie, garlic, lemon, and arugula), and the bee sting (my personal favourite) which consists of red sauce, mozzarella, spicy salami, basil, honey, chili oil, and lemon ricotta - yum! Note that the menu is subject to change.
