The city is reporting the first positive case of COVID-19 associated with the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board.

The city is reporting the first positive case of COVID-19 associated with the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board.

Hamilton Public Health Services (HPHS) confirmed today (September 18) that a student at Bishop Tonnos Catholic Secondary School recently tested positive for the virus.

The board is reportedly working with Public Health Officials to facilitate case and contact tracing, and will not be identifying the student in an effort to respect their privacy.

The news of the first case related to the Catholic school board comes shortly after the first case of COVID-19 associated with the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board was reported.

“We understand the concern this causes staff, students and the families of the Bishop Tonnos Catholic Secondary School community,” said Patrick Daly, Chairperson at Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board.

“We will be working closely with Hamilton Public Health Services and following all Ministry of Education and Public Health guidance.”

The city says the HPHS will contact positive cases and work with the school board to identify any additional contacts who require follow-up and reach out to them directly.

The HWCDSB will be responsible for cleaning and disinfection of any areas where symptomatic individuals were located, in addition to preventive measures to control outbreaks within the schools.
