An East Hamilton landmark is closing their doors, but from the closing of one door comes a new opportunity.

An East Hamilton landmark is closing their doors, but from the closing of one door comes a new opportunity.

Aceti’s Pizzeria & Sports Bar announced via their website and social media that as of May 1, they would cease operations at their location on the corner of Main and Barons.

“It is with a heavy heart, we announce that in its 54th year, Aceti’s Pizzeria & Sports Bar says farewell,” the post on Aceti’s website says.

“So many staff members to thank as they all became part of the Aceti’s Family and part of the lore that is Aceti’s Pizzeria & Sports Bar. And to our long loyal customers, we say thank you and we’ll miss you!”

A source close to the business told InTheHammer that Aceti’s hasn’t closed as a result of COVID-19 but that it has been sold to another restaurateur who runs a successful family restaurant in Hagersville.

In the meantime, Hamiltonians are mourning the loss of the family-run restaurant that has played a vital role in supporting and feeding the community for more than 50 years.

Aceti’s will likely go down in Hamilton history as having probably the best pizza dough: it was always so fresh and thick and scrumptious. Their wings were always a crowd pleaser — that sauce though!

Many East Hamiltonians will have fond memories of catching games in their solarium with a plate of wings and pizza or gathering with friends over pitchers on their beautiful patio.

Without a doubt, Aceti’s drew on some of Hamilton’s finest personalities for its customer base, but it’s their longtime staff who will always have a place in our collective hearts.

“Never thought I’d see this day come,” lamented one Facebook user.

“A lot of late nights with good friends!!! Met a lot of great people,” writes another.

Word has it that the new owners will be renovating and reopening but the details remain scarce.

Obviously, the global pandemic will have an impact on how things move forward.

InTheHammer has reached out to the new owners for more details and will provide them when they become available.
