Evidence of a long weekend shooting has turned up in Hamilton but police don’t have much to go on.

A resident found “numerous spent bullet casings” at their home in the Sherman Avenue South and Main Street East area of Hamilton on Monday (May 20) night, Hamilton Police said in a press release.

The discovery followed an earlier report of gunshots just after midnight on Saturday (May 18), police said. Police investigated but there were no witnesses, evidence of a shooting or victims.

The resident who found the bullet casings had been away for the weekend and made the discovery when they returned home late Monday afternoon, police said.

Police found evidence of a firearm discharge and the exact timeline has been determined to be shortly before midnight on Friday, May 17, police said.

No victims have been reported injured to the police in relation to this shooting.

Investigators are asking residents in the area with security cameras to review footage from the specified dates for any unusual or suspicious activity. Additionally, those who were driving nearby with dash cameras are urged to check their footage as well.

If you have any information or footage that might aid the investigation, please contact Detective Matthew Dugdale of the Shooting Response Team at 905-546-4883 or via email at [email protected].
