Sewer and road upgrades to close major intersection for month in Hamilton

The City of Hamilton will be doing sewer and road upgrades that will fully close the intersection at Dewitt Road and Highway 8 for a month starting next week.
The work will begin Tuesday, Sept. 5 as part of the first phase of the project in Stoney Creek. The City said it will require the full closure of the intersection because of the depth and size of the underground sewer infrastructure that will be installed.
During the closure, motorists are advised to detour using Millen and Fruitland Roads.
“Following the installation, one lane in each direction will be re-opened to facilitate traffic flow while the intersection is completed,” it announced in a press release today (Aug. 31).
The City said it plans to do sanitary sewer upgrades, road restoration, and road and sidewalk reconstruction. As well, it is resurfacing the road, replacing the curb and boulevard along with other related work.
HSR Route 55 Stoney Creek Central bus will detour in both directions between Fruitland and Millen Roads, with some stops out of service, resulting in minor delays, the City added. However, Route 55A is not affected.
“The City of Hamilton thanks motorists, pedestrians and cyclists for their patience as we complete these important infrastructure repairs,” it wrote in the press release.
