Severe thunderstorm watch in effect in Hamilton, Niagara and Halton regions

Residents in Hamilton, Niagara and Halton Hills can expect a rough weather situation tonight(Aug. 24).
According to Environment Canada, the thunderstorm may cause intense downpours and “toonie” size hail extending overnight.
Such large hailstones have the potential to cause damage to property and pose a threat to personal safety.
Furthermore, the storms are expected to bring torrential rainfall of 30 to 50 mm.
Authorities are warning residents about flash floods and hazardous water accumulation on roads, presenting risks to motorists and pedestrians.
Environment Canada is closely monitoring the situation as thunderstorms continue their southeastward path over the region.
“Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches,” Environment Canada said in a press release.
