Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for Hamilton

Environment Canada issued a warning Thursday morning, saying conditions in Hamilton are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce hail, high winds and heavy rainfall.

The weather agency warns of wind gusts up to 100 km/hr and nickel-sized hail.

“Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall,” Environment Canada says.

“The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.”

The thunderstorm watch remains in effect this afternoon and into the evening.

In the meantime, Hamilton is scorching with temperatures reaching up around 29 with a humidex of 37. Temperatures will dip to 20 late this evening and overnight.

Chance of showers and thunderstorms sits at around 60 per cent throughout the day and into the evening.
