A very popular Italian eatery in downtown Hamilton announced this week that they are closing their doors permanently.

Frat’s Cucina, located on King William, announced Monday (August 24) that effective immediately they would be closing the restaurant permanently.

“The hardest part of our closing will be saying goodbye to our loyal guests,” Frat’s said in their farewell post on Instagram.

“To be a part of the continually evolving food scene in this city has been an immense privilege and we will take what we have learned and carry it with us.”

Frat’s opened almost exactly two years ago and has since become a highlight of the burgeoning James North and King William food scene.

The restaurant has a well-earned reputation for having some of the richest, fresh original menu items in the city, served by staff with a clear passion for food and drink.

“You truly helped Frat’s come to life.”

Late last year, Frat’s brought world-renowned chef Romain Avril on board to act as a culinary consultant. Avril has worked in Michelin-rated restaurants across the globe.

Frat’s momentum, however, was disrupted with the onslaught of the global pandemic.

Like many small businesses in Hamilton, COVID-19 took its toll on Frat’s and reopening under the current guidelines was not a sustainable option.

Though Frat’s Cucina is now closed, their gift certificates are still being honoured at several restaurants in Hamilton.

Frat’s gift cards can still be used at any Coop Wicked Chicken or Turtle Jack’s locations.
