Hamilton Police and OPP have identified human remains found in December in a wooded area in Mount Forest as belonging to a woman who went missing in Hamilton two years ago.

In a video posted to Twitter on Tuesday (May 12), OPP Det. Insp. Scott Moore said last Christmas Eve, a man and his son walking in a wooded area near Highway 6 and Southgate Rd. 10 in Southgate Township came across what they believed were human remains.

Moore said police were contacted immediately and an investigation was launched, and after an extensive search of the area for evidence and following a ‘lengthy forensic examination’ of the remains, it was determined they belonged to 29-year-old Monica Chisar.

Chisar was last seen on July 11, 2018, in the area around Barton Street E and Parkdale North, said S/Sgt. Jim Callender of the Hamilton Police Service in the video.

She wasn’t reported missing until late September that year when her family noticed that Chisar, who reportedly had a history of going missing for periods of time, hadn’t used social media as was her usual practice.

“Monica didn’t have an extensive history in Hamilton,” Callender said.

“She did have a wide circle of associates throughout the Greater Toronto Area and Kitchener.”

Detectives believe that Chisar is the victim of a homicide and they are looking for members of the public to come forward with any information that could help investigators determine the events that lead to her death.

Anyone with information is asked to call 1-855-677-4636 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
