RECALLS: Children's clothing, cribs, power tools, and leaf blowers, recalled in Ontario

While most foods and products are safe, some may occasionally slip through quality checks. Being informed about these items allows you to either dispose of them or return them for a refund.

Here’s a list of products recalled this week in Ontario.

Costway Portable Baby Bed Side Sleeper Infant

Item Number - BB5339GR

The recalled cribs are available in beige, grey, green, pink, or blue and feature a detachable sidebar, two fixed ropes, retractable feet, and four levels of height adjustment.

The following item/batch numbers are affected:

  • BB5339BE—190889
  • BB5339BL —190889
  • BB5339GN—190889
  • BB5339GR—190889
  • BB5339PI—190889

Health Canada’s sampling and evaluation program has found that these cribs fail to meet safety regulations due to their sleep surface, which inclines at an angle greater than 7 degrees, posing a risk of entrapment and suffocation for infants. Parents and caregivers are reminded that the safest sleeping position for babies is on their back on a firm, flat surface designed for sleep.

The company reported that 108 units of the affected products were sold in Canada between June 2023 to February 2024.

Risks: Poses entrapment and suffocation hazards.

What you should do: Stop using the recalled cribs and contact Costway for a refund.

As of April 25, 2024, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.

SKIMS Children’s Fleece Sleep Set

Recalled Multi Plaid Fleece Pajama Set

The recalled sleepwear sets consist of a matching plaid shirt and pants and are available in four different colours: Blue, Multi, Cypress and Wine. The sizes include 2T, 3T, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10.

The products may not meet flammability requirements for children’s sleepwear. Additionally, loose-fitting sleepwear poses a higher risk of ignition from sources like stove elements and candles.

The company reported that approximately 23 units of the affected products were sold in Canada and 830 were sold in the United States from November 2023 to February 2024.

Risks: Potential burn hazards to large areas of a child’s body.

What you should do: Discontinue using the items and contact the company for instructions on how to dispose of them and receive a refund of the purchase price.

As of April 19, 2024, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada or in the United States.

Ryobi Y18GB Airwave 18-Gauge Brad Nailer and Ryobi Y18GBS Airwave 2-in-1 Brad Nailer/Stapler

RYOBI model Y18GB Airwave 18-Gauge Brad

This recall involves two RYOBI models sold exclusively in Canada: the Y18GB Airwave 18-Gauge Brad Nailer and the Y18GBS Airwave 2-in-1 Brad Nailer/Stapler.

The Brad Nailer measures 10 inches in height, 11.8 inches in depth, and 3.7 inches in width and weighs about 6.3 lbs.

The Nailer/Stapler is a multi-tool approximately 9.8 inches in height, 12 inches in depth, and 5.9 inches in width, and it weighs approximately 8 lbs.

The issue involves the workpiece contact element, which can become stuck in a compressed position. This can cause the nail to be discharged with just the trigger, rather than the intended two-step actuation process.

The company reported that approximately 8,910 Nailers and 4,067 Nailer/Staplers were sold in Canada.

The Nailer was sold between November 2021 and March 2024. The Nailer/Stapler was sold between October 2021 and March 2024.

Risks: Poses laceration hazards.

What you should do: Stop using the recalled products and contact TTI Consumer Tools, Inc. to receive a replacement product.

As of May 3, 2024, the company has received one reported incident in which a consumer sustained an injury in Canada.
