Hamilton’s Dolled Up Desserts has made the move from online to storefront in recent days and they’re bringing their particular vintage panache to James Street North in a big way.
The launch of their pretty pink shop at 142 James N, has been much anticipated by their loyal following and lovers of things delicious, vegan and gluten-free.
The guiding principle of the Dolled Up Desserts team is inclusivity.
Their mission, as they say on their website, is to connect people with dietary intolerances with their communities.
“If dessert is a form of communication, then the people with dietary differences are lost in translation,” they say on their website.
“The world needs someone who has had enough with settling for second best; someone who demands that dessert, no matter what, should always taste like dessert. Dolled Up Desserts is that leader.”
The company’s founder and head dessert designer, Katarina Poletto, a Toronto native and graduate of McMaster University has made a name for herself on Hamilton’s culinary scene.
She’s won several local awards and accolades for her small business and is a vibrant and eloquent presence among Hamilton’s female entrepreneurs.
Poletto launched Dolled Up in 2016 and has been on an upward trajectory ever since.
The new shop opened late last week and so far, there have been lineups out the door.
Dolled Up’s delectable Birthday Cake cupcake was featured in one of InTheHammer’s very first Top 5s last Fall, so we can attest to the absolutely top-notch quality of their desserts and snacks.
For those looking for something a little more salty than sweet, they do that too: they offer an array of savoury bread offerings, like bagels and the Umami Bun pictured below.
