A male in his late teens was sent to hospital Thursday (June 9) night after police believe he was shot in a Hamilton laneway.

The shooting occurred shortly before 9:00 p.m. Hamilton Police were called to the area of Barton St E and Birch Ave where they said they located three teenage males walking in the area of Stirton and Cannon St E.

Police said they learned the males were friends and “one of them was suffering from a non-life-threatening lower-body injury”.

The injury was believed to have been caused by a bullet, said police.

“Through continued investigation, police have determined a disturbance involving a group of teens occurred in a laneway in the original dispatched area,” said Hamilton Police. “At that time, one of the males discharged a firearm.”

Police say the victim is not cooperating.

Police later identified three other males believed to have been involved in the incident. All three were arrested; however, their charges pertain to unrelated offenses.

A 22-year-old Hamilton man was charged with two counts of possession of a weapon.

A 16-year-old male from Hamilton is accused of failing to comply with a release order.

Another 16-year-old Hamilton male is facing charges related to a robbery.

Hamilton Police said the shooting investigation, meanwhile, is ongoing.
