Police investigate crash that killed 25-year-old Hamilton man over the weekend

A 25-year-old Hamilton man is the city’s sixth driving fatality for 2020, following a collision on the mountain Saturday (May 16) afternoon.

Hamilton Police say shortly after 12:00 p.m., a motorcycle travelling southbound on Upper James Street collided with an SUV in the intersection of Upper James Street and Fennell Ave, Hamilton.

The rider, a 25-year-old man from Hamilton was operating a 2013 Kawasaki motorcycle and the driver, a 50-year-old man was operating a 2019 Cadillac Escalade SUV. At the time of the collision, the SUV had started to turn left to travel west on Fennell Ave.

Hamilton Police and emergency service partners immediately responded to the collision. The rider was transported to the hospital for further medical treatment. He later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the SUV was not injured in the collision, police say.

The busy intersection was closed for several hours as officers processed the scene.

Police say that the Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the collision and at this time investigators have not ruled out any contributing factors.
