The City of Hamilton’s By-Law Enforcement division tweeted out a friendly reminder to motorists about how to properly park near residential driveways on Monday (Jan. 27) morning.

With the helpful tips, Parking Control Officer Griese shared a photo of exactly how NOT to park near a driveway.

In the photo, a tiny Toyota IQ is parked right across the driveway of one Hamilton home, blocking the way for two cars.

“When parking on street you must be 45cm back from any residential driveway & 1m from a commercial driveway,” Griese says in the tweet.

“A 75$ penalty, possibly having your [vehicle] towed & making someone late is no way to start the week.”

Parking across one’s driveway seems to be common practice in Hamilton (at least in my neighbourhood), especially when streets are teeming with cars. It’s probably good to know that this could potentially lead to one getting a ticket.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this story incorrectly identified the Hamilton Police as tweeting out the photo when it was in fact the City of Hamilton’s By-Law and Enforcement . We apologize for any confusion.
