A parkette estimated to cost $57,853 could be created in the east-end beach community of Hamilon.

Ward 5 Councillor Matt Francis is proposing a motion at today’s public works committee meeting to add the parkette at 505 Beach Blvd., which is City-owned property. Francis was raised on Beach Boulevard.

According to the motion, design work and public consultation could start in 2024. Noting resources are limited, construction is “subject to unforeseen challenges such as procurement timing, supply chain issues or other factors.”

Stating the reason behind the motion, the motion reads that “the parks in Ward 5 provide valuable recreation and connectivity opportunities to residents.”

The cost of $57,853 would be funded by the Hamilton Beach Park Reserve.

Councillors will decide whether to pass the motion today (Nov. 13).
