Ontario is reporting a total of 837 cases of confirmed COVID-19 in the province as of 10:30 a.m. Thursday (March 26).

That is a total of 149 newly confirmed cases since Wednesday.

While the location of some cases are still yet to be determined, there is one newly confirmed case in Hamilton.

This brings the number of confirmed cases in Hamilton to 40.

The province’s website indicates that the latest case in the city is a woman in her 80s. All other details of this latest case are pending. Public health says four patients in Hamilton have been hospitalized.

A Hamilton woman in her 80s died of the virus Tuesday (March 24) morning.

Hers was the first reported death in the city related to the virus. She was a resident of Heritage Green Nursing Home in Stoney Creek, where an outbreak of the virus has been declared.

There is evidence of community spread across the province and Hamilton’s medical officer of health said earlier this week that in at least two cases in Hamilton they have not been able to trace the origin of the infection.

Residents are reminded to wash their hands frequently and stay home unless it is not possible to do so.

UPDATE: The City of Hamilton confirmed just after 3 p.m. that Hamilton has 43 cases, four of which are new Thursday.
