One person is in hospital after he was shot in broad daylight on a busy Hamilton street.

UPDATE 2:50 p.m: Hamilton Police have confirmed more information about the man shot today. Police confirmed multiple gunshots were heard on King Street East and East Avenue North around 11:45 a.m.

An innocent bystander, a man in his 50’s, was grazed by a stray bullet. His injuries were serious but not life-threatening. He was treated in hospital and has since been released.

A grey four-door BMW sedan was seen leaving the area. It was last seen heading down King William Street from Victoria Avenue North. The area was initially shut down but has since reopened.

The victim was shot on King Street East and East Avenue North, Hamilton Police announced on May 6. Their announcement came shortly after noon but they did not specify the exact time of the shooting.

The area is a largely commercial area in Landsale with several shops and restaurants. King Street is also known as Highway 8. The scene is still under investigation and should be avoided for some time.

Police confirmed no details about the victim. They have not been publically identified and neither their gender or age has been disclosed. However, police say they were seriously injured and remain in hospital.

Investigators have also not shared any information about potential suspects as yet.
