Hamiltonians in the mood for some southern fare can now order crab mac n’ cheese, fried oyster pasta, brisket and more at a newly opened restaurant on Locke Street.

Whoa Nelly!, which officially announced its opening earlier this week on social media, is located at 137 Locke St. S.

The resto has taken over the two-floor historic building that was formerly home to The Lockesmith, a gastropub that was only open for a few months.

“We’re your neighbours in the big house at the corner of Locke & Hunter, serving up some really Southern dishes, and some pretty Southern dishes,” the new restaurant’s website reads.

“But more importantly, we’re a meeting place. A comfortable, casual eatery where you can come as you are, and stay a while.”

As far as food goes, the menu features BBQ popcorn shrimp, fried oyster cacio e pepe, sandwiches (brisket, blackened salmon and mushroom), ribs, a peppercorn burger and more. The resto also offers a range of southern side dishes, including creamed corn, rice and beans and potato salad.

Whoa Nelly! also offers a sizeable drink menu with cocktails (including a few options for anyone who loves a good old fashioned, wine and beer.
