Hamilton has identified the man shot down outside his workplace last night as Spencer Laffin, 33.

Investigators confirmed the shooting in a commercial area near Nebo Rd. and Hempstead Dr. shortly after 6 p.m. Dec. 11. However, they shared no further details in the case until a press conference the following evening.

According to Detective Sargeant Sarah Beck, an altercation began at Laffin’s workplace Satellite Tires at 100 Nabo Dr. around 5 p.m. Shortly thereafter, numerous 911 calls poured in to report a shooting. Responding officers arrived to find Laffin dead across Hempstead Dr. at 70 Nebo Rd., about 80 meters north. He leaves behind a two-year-old son, a sister, parents and grandparents.

Beck said two suspects are likely involved the shooter and a getaway driver. The shooter interacted with Laffin shortly before the attack. While investigators are unsure of the nature of the interaction, they believe this was a target strike. However, they have no known motive for it as yet.

One of the suspects is described as a slim Black man standing about six feet. He was wearing dark clothes and a blue medical mask. He took off north up Nebo Rd. in a dark SUV.

“In the wake of unimaginable sorrow, we come together to mourn the loss of a cherished soul. Spencer Laffin, a beacon of light in our lives, has embarked on a new journey, leaving us with heavy hearts and tearful eyes,” reads Laffin’s obituary.

Laffin’s murder is the tenth in Hamilton last year.
