More than 500 cases of COVID-19 reported in Hamilton since start of pandemic

The City of Hamilton is reporting that there are 512 cases of COVID-19 in the community as of Thursday (May 14) — 507 confirmed cases and five probable.

This is up 12 cases from the last reporting on Wednesday.

Hamilton’s death toll remains at 25, with most of the city’s fatalities from the virus associated with outbreaks at long-term care or congregate facilities.

There are currently 11 active outbreaks at facilities across the city: there are a reported 22 residents/patient cases and 13 cases among staff at the affected facilities.

A couple of the facilities that are currently listed as having outbreaks are a result of a number of tests that turned out to be false positives, which were confirmed earlier this week.

For the second day in a row, the city’s rate of resolved cases has dipped slightly to 73 per cent with 372 cases being resolved.

There are currently 25 people being treated for the virus in Hamilton hospitals.

The province is reporting that there are 21,494 cases across Ontario as of Thursday, which is an increase of 258 in 24 hours.

The provincial death toll is 1,798 — which is 33 more from Wednesday — and the total number of resolved cases is 16,204.
