If you’re a GO Transit rider who uses Metrolinx’s discounted double fare (DDF) program, you should know that the program is coming to its scheduled end soon.

The DDF program is a three-year agreement between GO Transit, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) and the Union Pearson Express (UPX) that offers PRESTO users a $1.50 discount on their fare when transferring between GO/UPX and the TTC.

The program is currently funded by the province.

Metrolinx says the current agreement will end on March 31, 2020.

According to Metrolinx, the program was funded up to $18.4 million annually and exceeded the allotted budget each year. It exceeded the budget by $2.6 million in 2018-19 and is expected to exceed it by $6.7 million in 2019-20.

Metrolinx says it has covered the $9.3 million shortfall since the program’s launch.

“Metrolinx will be bringing forward solutions in the near future to help our customers travel through the region using different methods of transit,” Metrolinx said in a statement posted to social media.

“Metrolinx and the Ministry of Transportation will continue to work collaboratively with all of its municipal partners, towards more accessible and affordable transit throughout the region.”

Metrolinx says it still offers various discounted programs, including Kids GO Free, Sunday Funday and lowered short-distance fares for GO Transit.
