Main routes first priority as Hamilton plows and salters clean up after winter storm

Hamilton road crews are out in force today responding to the snow coming down, with a reminder to residents that roads are plowed based on priority.

The first priority is main routes and escarpment crossings – the roads with the greatest volume of traffic – followed by collector roads and finally, neighbourhood streets.

Residential streets generally receive sand/salt treatment at intersections, hills and sharp curves.

Winter maintenance vehicles are dispatched prior to the start of a winter event to apply an anti-icing treatment if required. Salters and plows will then work continuously through the duration of the snowfall, applying material as required.

As always, drive according to weather conditions and give road crews plenty of space to operate.
