After playing the lotto for more than 10 years, a Hamilton retiree says he finally has his “icing on a cake.”

David Gallaugher of Stoney Creek won $83,232.30 in a Lotto Max second prize in the Oct. 13 draw.

“It’s a hard feeling to describe – it’s like icing on a cake,” Gallaugher was quoted as saying in a press release today (Nov. 2). He plans to invest and use some of his winnings for travel.

Lotto Max has been his favourite game for over a decade. “I play regular numbers that I randomly selected,” he said while he was at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his prize. “It was a Saturday morning when I checked my tickets at home on OLG.ca and realized I won $83,000! I thought, ‘Wow, this is so cool!'”

He woke up his wife, who wanted to see it to believe it herself so she scrambled to put on her glasses. “When she finally saw for herself, it was a pretty special moment,” Gallaugher said.

The winning ticket was purchased at New York News on Stone Church Road in Stoney Creek.

Lotto Max players have won over $7.9 billion since 2009, including 99 jackpot wins and 859 Maxmillions prizes in Ontario.
