The LCBO has announced that it will keep its stores open to the public in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

“We’re hearing what you’re hearing–but can confirm that LCBO stores are open. Like our fellow retailers, we are following guidance from public health officials and will keep our customers up to date if anything changes,” the provincially-run store said in a statement posted to social media on March 16.

The announcement came after Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. David Williams, announced that the province was moving forward with new measures to help contain the virus, including the recommended closure of all recreational programs, libraries, private schools, daycares, places of worship, bars, and restaurants. Bars and restaurants that agree to serve takeout or delivery exclusively are free to operate.

The federal, provincial and municipal/regional governments are now recommending that people avoid large gatherings of over 50 people.

The LCBO says that to ensure the safety of shoppers, it has elevated its cleaning and sanitation protocols in stores and warehouses and has increased prevention awareness among staff.

“We want our employees to take of themselves and, in turn, you. As you’re shopping with us, an extra nod of appreciation toward our customer service representatives and staff would be lovely–they are working hard to make sure you get the products you want, in addition to being members of the local communities in which we operate.”
