As of Thursday (July 9), the City of Hamilton is reporting that there have been 858 cases of COVID-19 in the community since it was first detected here in March.

As it stands, 850 cases have been confirmed, while eight are considered probable. There are three more cases since last reporting on Wednesday.

Hamilton’s death toll related to the virus remains at 44, which has been unchanged since June 24.

The city’s rate of resolved cases is on the rise again: 786 COVID-19 cases have been resolved, representing approximately 92 per cent of Hamilton’s overall case count.

The numbers show that at the moment, there are fewer than 30 active cases in the community.

The age group testing positive for the virus the most in the last ten days is those who fall into the 60 to 69 age range, with six (or 30 per cent of new cases) testing positive.

After three days, Hamiltons hospitals are still reporting that they are not currently treating any patients with COVID-19 for the time being and there are no active institutional or community outbreaks being reported at this time.

Ontario reported 170 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday and three new deaths due to the novel coronavirus.

The total number of cases now stands at 36,348, which includes 31,977 marked as resolved and 2,703 deaths.

The province also reported 172 newly resolved cases on Thursday and said it completed more than 26,326 tests for the novel coronavirus over the previous 24 hours.

The number of people in hospital because of the virus remained steady, while people in ICUs and on ventilators both slightly decreased.

Health Minister Christine Elliott said 86 of the province’s new cases were among temporary foreign workers in the Windsor-Essex region.

She said 30 of the province’s 34 public health units reported five or fewer cases, with 20 of them reporting no new cases at all.

Also on Thursday, Ontario extended its emergency orders for the COVID-19 pandemic until July 22.
