There are just two new cases of COVID-19 in 24 hours being reported in Hamilton on Monday (June 1), bringing the city’s total to 685 — 678 confirmed and seven probable.

The City of Hamilton is reporting one new death associated with the virus, however, making the local death toll 38.

This week, there are fewer local long-term care homes coping with active outbreaks at the moment. The city is reporting just five active outbreaks for the time being — down from seven this time last week and double-digits the week before.

The last long-term care outbreaks in Hamilton were declared on May 23.

Over the weekend, The Rosslyn Retirement Home in East Hamilton had their outbreak — the city’s worst since the start of the pandemic — declared over.

In that outbreak, more than 80 people tested positive for COVID-19 and many of those cases were hospitalized after the outbreak caused the evacuation of the facility last month. Of the cases associated with The Rosslyn, at least seven have died.

There are currently 57 people being treated for COVID-19 in Hamilton hospitals.

The percentage of resolved cases in Hamilton has risen to 72 per cent. This means that 495 of Hamilton’s overall cases have been resolved.

Meanwhile, Ontario reported 404 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, and 10 more deaths.

That brings the province to a total of 28,263 cases — an increase of 1.5 per cent over the previous day.

The total includes 2,276 deaths and 22,153 cases that have been resolved.

Hospitalizations and the number of people on ventilators remained steady, but the number of patients in intensive care increased.

The number of tests completed in the previous day dropped to 14,379, down from a high of over 20,000 reported Saturday. The amount tends to fall after a weekend.

The Ministry of Long-Term Care reports 112 outbreaks of COVID-19 in those facilities, down from 114 on Sunday.
