As the lazy days of summer melt into the hustle and bustle of autumn, Hamilton’s theatre season starts to heat up.

What is special about the Hamilton theatre scene, though, is its dedication to producing world-class productions that showcase our local talent. From the big stage at Theatre Aquarius to the intimacy of the Hamilton Player’s Guild studio on Queen St., we’ve got it all in this city as far as theatre goes.

This season, Hamilton’s theatre scene will feature plenty of comedy, mystery and drama and a few Broadway musicals.

Here’s what some of our local theatres are putting on this season.

Theatre Aquarius

First up is the comedy Renovation for Six by Canadian playwright Norm Forster. The show runs from Sept. 18 to Oct. 5 and features three couples who are all in the midst of home renovations at a dinner party.

New York City-based playwright Carey Crim’s award-winning Never Not Once will be featured from Oct. 23 to Nov. 9.

The theatre warns the play contains mature content and describes the show as “a powerful and poignant drama about the families we choose, and the secrets that can tear them apart.”

And, just in time for the holiday season, Tony award-winning Hairspray the Broadway Musical will hit the stage for a run from Nov. 27 to Dec. 29.

The theatre company says the show “is a family-friendly musical, piled bouffant-high with laughter, romance and deliriously tuneful songs.”
