The reopening of some of Hamilton’s outdoor pools could not come at a better time when you’re looking ahead at our steamy forecast but there are going to be some significant changes this year.

Starting Monday (July 6) the city of Hamilton will be reopening two outdoor pools and seven indoor pools and a week later (July 13) four more outdoor pools will be opening as well.

One of the major differences bathers will notice is that there are strict time limits to how long they will have access to the pool.

Admittance to a Hamilton pool will only allow for a specific time and the city says that change rooms will be cleared every hour and a half to allow for disinfection.

All swimmers will be screened for COVD-19 symptoms and physical distancing protocols will be in place at all pools, and people who are experiencing symptoms are asked not to come to the pools but to contact their doctor or Hamilton Public Health Services.

Here are some of the other rules and restrictions in place at Hamilton pools this summer, that aim to help reduce the spread of COVID-19:

  • Patrons are encouraged to come already changed and to shower at home
  • Goggles are encouraged
  • Permitted equipment: only PFD, puddle jumpers, goggles, small personal toys, water wings
  • Not permitted: snorkels, balls, large floats
  • There will be limited space for personal belongings and lockers/baskets may not be available. Please only bring items with you that you need for the swim. The City of Hamilton is not responsible for lost or stolen items
  • Spectators/non-bathers are not permitted on the pool deck. Limited alternative viewing areas may be available at some locations.
  • All patrons will be required to maintain physical distance at all times with other patrons who are outside of their social circle.
  • Limited amenities and lifejackets are available; slides, diving boards, spas, and warm pools are not available.
  • Lost and found will be disposed of regularly
  • No re-entry will be permitted per swim

When planning to visit one of the City’s pools this summer, residents are asked to plan ahead and to check pool schedules.
