The City of Hamilton said in a press release Thursday (July 9) that the James Street escarpment stairs will be closing by the end of the day for the next couple of months.

In order to safely proceed with the construction on the Claremont Escarpment Access and the Keddy Access Trail, the city said that they have to close the James Street Stairs beginning later Thursday until the fall.

Construction of the project got underway earlier this month and closed a portion of the Claremont access until later this year.

The city says the entire length of the James Street Stairs will be closed to ensure the safety of the public and construction workers around the heavy construction equipment needed to complete this project.

Given the significance of this project on the Claremont Access, the City has launched a dedicated project website to share timelines and more specific details.
