The accolades for Hamilton’s Clifford Brewing keep coming, with the east end brewery capturing a gold and two silver medals at the just concluded Canada Beer Cup in Niagara Falls.
Clifford scored a gold medal for Nitro Porter in the ‘Robust’ Porter category and earned silvers for Marigold Belgian Ale (Belgian-style Blonde Ale) and for Brave Captain (Mild Ale).
The 2023 Canada Beer Cup Champion was presented to Deadfall Brewing of Prince George, BC for Basal Brown, entered in the American Style Brown Ale style category.
The second annual Canada Beer Cup, a competition organized by noted beer writer Stephen Beaumont, was hosted by Blackburn Brew House in Niagara Falls – which won its own gold medal for General Bock in the Helles Bock category.
There was plenty of international judging experience on the panel, led by Beaumont, who has written or co-written 15 books on the subject, including the brand new third edition of his best-seller, The World Atlas of Beer, and is seen as a global authority on all things’ beer.
There were also plenty of industry professionals on hand as the Ontario Craft Brewers Conference landed in the nearby Niagara Falls Convention Centre on October 25 and 26.
The 2023 Canada Beer Cup competition presented awards in 66 distinct style groups across 11 categories.
As an added bonus, $2 from every entry will support the Canadian Craft Brewers Association’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts.
