The holiday season makes its launch in Hamilton Friday with the lighting of the Christmas Tree of Hope in Gore Park in the downtown core at 5 p.m.

The Santa Claus Parade arrived November 18 and Christmas becomes official December 1 when Gore Park is transformed as it lights up downtown in a ceremony from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Visitors can enjoy a free family-friendly winter wonderland Friday evening, with decorations, live music, aerialists, pictures with Santa and princesses, a Ferris wheel and live musical performances from the Salvation Army Mountain Citadel Brass Band.

The annual Children’s Fund Christmas Tree of Hope, founded 47 years ago, aims every year to bring hope to children and families struggling through the holiday season.

The Children’s Fund provides vital funding and awareness of, children’s causes, programs and services in the Hamilton/Burlington communities and has distributed more than $6.3 million to local organizations in Hamilton and Burlington since 1976.
