Hamilton woman killed in car crash involving alleged impaired driver

A 59-year-old Hamilton woman has succumbed to injuries she sustained in a car crash earlier today.

Just before noon today in St Catharines, 30-year-old Jamie Burns was allegedly intoxicated behind the wheel when he was traveling along Niagara street.

As he approached the intersection of Niagara Street and Maple Street, he lost control of his car, crashing into a building near the intersection and hitting a woman inside. 

The woman, whose identity hasn’t been released to protect her family’s privacy, later died of her injuries. 

Burns has been charged with several criminal offences, including impaired operation causing death.
