Hamilton senior robbed of purse after man forces way into apartment
Hamilton Police are requesting public assistance after an elderly woman was robbed in her home.
Around 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (Jan. 11), police say a woman living in an apartment building at 28 King St. W. in Stoney Creek answered her door to an unknown man.
When the senior opened her apartment door, the man pushed his way inside, causing the victim to fall to the ground. The suspect then subsequently stole the victim's black and white purse before fleeing the apartment on foot.
The victim was transported to a hospital and treated for minor injuries.
The suspect is described as being a 35- to 45-year-old white man with a medium build, standing approximately 5' 4". He was clean-shaven and wearing dark clothing, a small black toque and large prescription glasses at the time of the incident.
Police are reminding citizens to be cautious of suspicious people in and around their apartment complex and refrain from opening their apartment door to unknown individuals.
Police say that they feel this was a random incident and the victim was not targeted.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Mario Rizzo, (905) 546-2918 or A/Det/Sgt Christian Mukendi, (905) 546-2907 with the East End Criminal Investigation Division.
