Alan Slote of Hamilton won $1 million in a LOTTO 6/49 Gold Ball draw

An 80 year-old Hamilton man is $1 million richer after winning a LOTTO 6/49 Gold Ball draw November 22.

Alan Slote was on his regular grocery run when he discovered his big win. “My wife was loading up the groceries and I quickly called her over to double check the win. Our jaws dropped,” he recalled. “It took me so long to process this. I wasn’t able to process all the zeroes. We were both very emotional.”

Slote plans to buy a new car, share his win with family and make donations with his windfall.

“This is my first big win,” he shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings. “I usually play LOTTO 6/49 and LOTTO MAX on grocery shopping days, which is twice a week. I’ve been playing for over 30 years.”

“This is a huge blessing and an unreal moment.”

LOTTO 6/49 offers players a chance to win two multi-million dollar jackpots every Wednesday and Saturday, for the same $3 per play.

The Classic Draw offers a fixed $5 million jackpot for every draw, while the Gold Ball Draw guarantees a $1 million prize, or the growing jackpot that starts at $10 million and can exceed $60 million. Click here for more information about the new LOTTO 6/49.

The winning ticket was purchased at Fortinos on Dundurn Street in Hamilton.
