Just because a label says something’s healthy, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s safe.

Just because a label says something’s healthy, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s safe.

Health Canada reported Wednesday (Sept. 18) that they had seized multiple unauthorized health products from three stores in Ontario — two of which are located in Hamilton and Dundas — and one in Quebec because they may pose serious health risks.

All of the products seized in the Hamilton area claim to be sexual enhancements but they were found to, in fact, contain potentially harmful substances.

Unauthorized health products have not been approved by Health Canada, which means that they have not been assessed for safety, effectiveness and quality.

The following products were seized from Big Bear Food Mart at 2 Castlewood Blvd. in Dundas:

  • Black Mamba Premium 18000 (Labelled to contain yohimbe — this is a prescription drug and should be used only under the supervision of a health care professional.)
  • Black Panther #1 (Labelled to contain yohimbe)
  • Rhino 7 Platinum 5000 (Large packaging; Labelled to contain yohimbe)
  • Rhino 7 Platinum 5000 (Small packaging; Labelled to contain yohimbe)
  • Rhino 25 Platinum 25000 (Product with similar packaging previously seized from other retailers and was labelled to contain yohimbe)
  • Stiff Rock (Product with similar packaging previously seized from other retailers and was tested and found to contain sildenafil and tadalafil –this is a prescription drug used to treat erectile dysfunction and should be used only under the supervision of a health care professional. It should not be used by individuals taking any kind of nitrate drug (e.g. nitroglycerine) as it can cause potentially life-threatening low blood pressure.)
  • Boss Number #Six (Product tested by Health Canada and found to contain tadalafil and sildenafil — this is a prescription drug used to treat erectile dysfunction and should be used only under the supervision of a health care professional.)

The following products seized from Big Bee Convenience at 215 King St. W in Hamilton:
