Hamilton reporting two more deaths related to COVID-19

The City of Hamilton is reporting 421 cases of COVID-19 in the city as of Tuesday (April 28), that’s up 12 cases from Monday’s reporting.

Two more deaths related to the virus have been confirmed, bringing Hamilton’s death toll to 19.

The number of cases that have so far been resolved is up to 237, or approximately 56 per cent of all of Hamilton’s reported cases.

Fifteen per cent of currently active cases — 64 cases — in Hamilton are associated with facilities where outbreaks have been declared.

There are currently 13 long-term care and congregate facilities in Hamilton grappling with active outbreaks.

On a positive note, Heritage Green Nursing Home, the first long-term care facility in Hamilton where an outbreak was declared on March 20, has had their outbreak declared over as of Monday.

In total, the facility had 12 residents and three staff members test positive for the virus. Several residents died from the virus during the course of the outbreak.

There are currently 29 people being treated for COVID-19 in Hamilton hospitals.

On Tuesday, Ontario reported that there were more than 525 new cases, bringing the provincial total to 15,381.

The province says 951 people have died as a result of the virus, while another 8,964 cases have been resolved.

There are currently 957 COVID-19 patients hospitalized across the province and 239are being treated in intensive care units and 187 are currently on ventilators.

According to Ontario’s pandemic website, 253,040 people have been tested for the virus and 6,282 possible cases are under investigation and says 10,852 tests have been completed in the last day.
