Hamilton Police are looking for a suspect who they say robbed a woman of her purse and cellphone in a parking garage in the city’s downtown Wednesday (April 22).

On Wednesday, shortly after 7:00 a.m., police say they responded to the area of Hughson Street North and Robert Street for a robbery.

Once on scene, police say the victim told them that after parking her car in an underground garage, she was approached by an unknown man who demanded her purse. She turned over her purse and cellphone to the suspect who then fled on foot, police say.

During the incident, the victim noted the suspect was carrying a dark coloured bar and a knife. The suspect did not use the weapons to threaten the victim and she was not injured.

Police have obtained an image of the suspect and believe he may have been involved in an unrelated incident in the area of Mary Street and Barton Street East, shortly before this robbery.

Area residents are asked to check their surveillance cameras for any suspicious activity from the early morning hours of April 22 and to contact police.

The suspect is described as:

  • Caucasian
  • Medium build

  • Dark blue pants
  • White running shoes
  • Black backpack with red accents on top
