Hamilton Police detectives continue to investigate acts of mischief involving hate-bias graffiti which occurred in the area of James Street South and Claremont Access.

Between Sunday (Oct. 13) and Tuesday (Oct. 15), Hamilton Police responded to the area of James Street South and the Claremont Access for four separate reports of hate bias graffiti.

Police say the graffiti was located in multiple areas along the escarpment stairs and at the top of the stairs in Southam Park.

The same graffiti was also located on a mural in the area of James Street South and Beckley Street.

Police believe these incidents are occurring in the late evening and early morning hours.

In one occurrence a citizen observed the suspect and called 911. A description was provided to police. The suspect, a man, is described as standing approximately 5’ 10”, weighing around 180-190 lbs with a shaved head. He was seen wearing a grey sweater, blue or green jacket and airpods.

On September 26, police say they responded to the area of King Street East and Wentworth Street North for an act of mischief.

This incident was not hate bias-related, however, a suspect was captured on surveillance video and police believe this person may be responsible for this week’s acts of mischief.

Hamilton Police Detectives and the Hate Crime Unit continue to investigate the incident and members of the public in the area are asked to review their security cameras for any suspicious activity.

Anyone with information is asked to contact acting Det. Sgt. Lisa Chamber by calling 905-546-3833.
