A Hamilton Police officer has been accused of domestic violence.

The officer is believed to have been involved in what police called a “domestic-related incident” in Stoney Creek on May 25.

They did not reveal the name of the officer, but noted the 38-year-old had been a member of the service for seven years. Names of the accused are often withheld in domestic violence cases to protect the identity of the victim.

The officer has been charged with assault with a weapon, robbery and mischief under $5,000.

He has since been suspended from Hamilton police and awaits a court date on June 14.

Under the Police Services Act, officers accused of a crime are suspended with pay until the case is heard in court.

Hamilton Police did not disclose the officer’s rank, on which salary is based. However, the average Hamilton Police Constable’s salary is $91,909 to $100,183 per year.
