Hamilton police say they nabbed an alleged car robber who they found sleeping with all his ill-gotten gains.

A 44-year-old man appeared in court Wednesday (Sept. 25) to answer to charges related to breaking into cars.

On Wednesday, shortly before 6 a.m., Hamilton Police responded to the area of Fullerton Avenue and Princess Street for a theft from a car that just occurred.

At the time, witnesses were following the suspect as he attempted to flee. He was eventually able to lose the witnesses and an area search conducted by the police was unsuccessful.

Police spoke with the victim who said that her vehicle was also entered almost two weeks prior and after speaking with the witnesses she believed it was the same male involved.

At approximately 9:00 a.m., Hamilton Police responded to the area of Sherman Avenue North and Princess Street as the victim of the theft located the suspect.

Upon arrival, the victim pointed out a man who was sleeping in front of a building. In plain view were the stolen items taken from the victim’s car along with other unidentified items. The man was woken up and placed under arrest.

A search of the suspect revealed he was in possession of crystal meth and other stolen items from additional victims. An investigation into the male’s identity confirmed existing warrants for his arrest in four jurisdictions.

Hamilton Police are continuing to investigate this incident and additional charges are pending as stolen items are identified and the victims notified.

The suspect, of no fixed address, is charged with:

  • Possession of stolen property under $5000 X2
  • Possession of controlled substance-methamphetamine
  • Theft under $5000
