Hamilton Police issue warrant for suspect in shooting that injured 7-year-old

Hamilton Police say they have issued a warrant for the arrest of 20-year-old Jayden Pitter in the shooting of a seven-year-old boy on Gordon Street last month.

Hamilton Police say they have issued a warrant for the arrest of 20-year-old Jayden Pitter in the shooting of a seven-year-old boy on Gordon Street last month.

The shooting happened just before 8 p.m. on Jan. 23. Police responded to the home in the city’s North East and found that a seven-year-old boy had been injured when several shots were fired into the home from the backyard.

The boy was just recently released from hospital, police say, and faces a long road to recovery.

After discharging the firearm, police believe the suspect fled from the rear yard into a vehicle waiting on Gordon Street and sped east.

At the time of the shooting, there were several adults in the home and one other child but no one else was injured.

The suspect vehicle, police said, has now been identified but the firearm involved is still outstanding.

Pitter faces the following charges:

  • Discharge Firearm with Intent
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm
  • Careless Use of a Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Fail to comply Probation x2
  • Fail to comply Youth Probation x2
  • Fail to comply Recognizance
  • Fail to comply Prohibition Order x3

Police believe there are people who know what happened and continue to encourage those individuals to come forward.

Pitter is considered dangerous. Police say that is he is spotted, he should not be approached and 911 should be called immediately.
