The Hamilton Police Service sent out a plea for the public’s assistance in identifying a man who they believe set a pair of dumpsters on fire.

Police said the first incident occurred shortly before 10:00 p.m. on June 19. They responded to a call regarding a dumpster fire at 1554 Main St W in Hamilton.

“The fully engulfed bin was quickly extinguished before other damage occurred,” said police. “A male in his 20s was observed on camera starting the fire and walking away.”

Shortly after the first fire, a second dumpster fire occurred within a few minutes near St. Mary’s High School at 200 Whitney Avenue, said police. The suspect description fits the earlier video footage.

The Hamilton Police Service Arson Unit believes the man is responsible for setting both fires.

He is described as a “heavy set” white male in his 20s with “dark, medium length hair”. The suspect was reportedly wearing a blue medical mask, shorts, and a button-down shirt.
